In May 2013, a two-week-old hippo was found nearly dead in Zambia. Now, a year later, that hippo’s all grown up and is being released back into the wild. A mall in Thailand has been taken over by fish. Bangkok’s New World Mall was shut down in 1997, and then in 1999 a fire left the 4-story building without a roof. The roofless mall accumulated years and years of rainfall, which flooded the basement and lower floors, which in turn created a horrendous breeding ground for mosquitoes.
So, the mall’s neighbors threw some fish into the pond to eat the mosquitoes. Now, thousands of koi and tilapia populate the 1,600 square-foot pond.
